In Vedic astrology, Sade Sati is the period when transiting Saturn moves through three consecutive signs around the natal Moon - the 12th sign from the Moon, the Moon sign itself and the 2nd sign from the Moon. Because Saturn is slow moving, the full passage is traditionally described as approximately seven and a half years.
The first phase is commonly called Aarambh or rising phase, the second is Madhya or peak phase, and the third is Antya or setting phase. Retrograde Saturn can cross a sign boundary more than once, so an exact ephemeris-based calculator may show repeated phase segments rather than one perfectly uninterrupted 2.5-year block for each phase.
Shani Dhaiya is usually checked separately from Sade Sati. Saturn transiting the 4th or 8th sign from the natal Moon is traditionally treated as a shorter Saturn-sensitive period. This calculator reports those positions separately instead of mixing them into Sade Sati.
