Vimshottari Dasha is a Vedic astrology timing system built around a 120-year cycle of nine planetary periods. The starting Mahadasha comes from the lord of the Moon's Janma Nakshatra, while the exact Moon position inside that Nakshatra determines how much of the first Mahadasha remains at birth.
A Mahadasha is the major planetary period. Each Mahadasha is divided into nine Antardashas, also called Bhukti, and each Antardasha is divided again into nine Pratyantardashas. The calculator above shows all three levels for the selected date.
The Moon rarely begins a Nakshatra exactly at the moment of birth. The untraversed fraction of the birth Nakshatra is applied to the full years of that Nakshatra lord.
